Jim Raggio, (pictured on the right with Club President Earl Murray Jr.) was the guest speaker at Friday morning’s meeting.

Jim is the CEO of the Lompoc Valley Medical Center. He talked about the financial health of the hospital, taking over the Samsung clinic, and his CEO replacement.

Jim said currently the hospital is in good financial health. They have 130 days cash on hand for operations. According to Wayne Mills, the Chief Financial Officer, the state average is 28 days. The hospital is doing well financially.

Jim talked about how Samsung clinic approached him about taking over the clinic. The board approved having discussions to purchase the building and recruit physicians to provide other services such as CT scans, colonoscopies, and other services. Many of these services require patients to drive to Santa Barbara. Keeping these services local would be a priority. He mentioned changing the electronic healthcare computer system to one that is more users friendly. An example would be patient records and how they are kept. He mentioned having a 24/7 urgent care center to assist patients.

Jim talked about his plans to retire as CEO of the Lompoc Valley Medical Center after 20 years. He was scheduled to step down June 30, 2018. They are still in the process of recruiting his replacement. He agreed to stay on until this process was completed. He said a candidate is expected to be hired by January 1, 2019.

The Rotary Club of Vandenberg Village and guests thanked Jim for a very informative talk.
